The Roots, Bringing The Fire to Late Night
   In two weeks we’ll hit the one year mark of Bruce Springsteen, Steve Van Zandt, and Roy Bittan cutting a powerful version of “Because the Night” with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  Since they debuted as the house band in March of 2009, The Roots have raised the bar on the late night band scene.  Previously, Paul Shaffer, Max Weinberg, and G.E. Smith had been the big headliners of the after hours band scene on network television, but the Philadelphia natives have simply been at a different tier than their predecessors.  Already they’ve backed The Boss and Daryl Hall (among others) and have logged time in the studio – playing alongside the legendary Booker T. Jones on his 2011 LP The Road from Memphis and have gathered material to release their thirteenth record this December.  Best late night band ever?
