British Band Scars On 45 On The Verge of Big Things in 2012

The music industry has always been a fickle thing, as very good bands can sometimes toil for a long time before getting a record deal or finding commercial success (see: The Keys, Black).  One band that has had a few breaks over the last year after waiting for quite some time is Britain’s Scars On 45, who appear to be on the verge of a major breakthrough in 2012.
The band’s catalog is comprised of eight songs that appeared on two EPs last year – Give Me Something and Heart On Fire.  A very strong collection of songs, both EPs serve as well-played teases that make the prospects for a full-length album very enticing.  At least three tracks, “Give Me Something,” “Heart On Fire,” and “Tomorrow Won’t Die Soon” have the makeup of singles that could support a strong debut record.  The first song from Scars On 45 to hit, “Give Me Something,” was dubbed one of the “Top Three Singles of the Year” by Amazon last year, trailing only Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” and Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.”
The strength of the five-piece band lies in Danny Bemrose and Aimee Driver, who share the group’s vocal duties.  The two sing well together, allowing Driver’s soft voice to help guide their music along while Bemrose typically takes the lead vocal.  It is also important to give credit to the group for evolving their sound in the early stages of their career, as Driver takes a more central role in their second EP to give the band a noticeably different and more emotionally powerful sound.  As for the other members of Scars on 45, they have succeeded in surrounding Bemrose’s lyrics with a style reminiscent of Snow Patrol and Death Cab for Cutie, with their best effort coming on “Give Me Something.”  With such a strong collection of songs that are slated to be released as a full-length album this spring, Scars on 45 has a legitimate shot to be one of the most popular young bands to take center stage in 2012.
Both EPs are available as MP3 downloads in the U.S.  The song “Heart On Fire” is also present on the most recent Grey’s Anatomy Soundtrack.  Scars On 45 is also touring North America this winter in support of Anya Maria.

My money is on this band in 2012. I've seen them peform a half dozen times and they just keep getting better. I am excited to see them embarking on their first headlining tour, and looking forward to their new album. They are a personal favorite of mine. If the fates are kind, they are destined for big things.

I think once they get a full-length together this year they should do very well. I think the Driver/Bemrose vocal tandem is very infectious and will be popular on alternative stations.
