Stewart Copeland, Taylor Hawkins, Matt Stone, and Chris Chaney’s Jam Session
Police/Klark Kent drummer Stewart Copeland has made a habit of inviting a varied array of musicians for a jam session at his Sacred Grove studios and throwing it up youtube for fan salivation. In the past Copeland has brought in musicians ranging from Neil Pert and Ben Harper to his studios, although his most recent session was quite an interesting arrangement.
Aside from Copeland, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and South Park/Book of Mormon creator Matt Stone, as well as Chris Chaney from Alanis Morrisette, Jane’s Addiction and Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders gathered at this Sacred Grove session. The quartet recently jammed on a new track that was posted on Copeland’s youtube page on June 13th. In addition to playing the drums, Hawkins and Copeland both lent their talents to a horn section that was primarily cast by Stone, who played baritone saxophone, tuba, and trombone.
Each of the musicians have been linked to each other through past projects, as Copeland once appeared as a voice actor in South Park’s 1999 film, Hawkins and Chaney through their work with Morrisette, and Copeland and Hawkins through a 2008 cut of “Next To You” at a Foo Fighters show at The Forum in Los Angeles. The unnamed track was primarily a fun, funky jam from a group that seemed to enjoy just cutting loose in the studio, check it out:
