Tom Petty Jams With Eddie Vedder, Steve Winwood in European Tour
Tom Petty has managed to trot out some fairly impressive luminaries in the early part of his first tour in Europe in twenty years. Petty and the Heartbreakers, who last traversed Europe as while on 1992’s Into the Great Wide Open Tour, played a pair of songs with both Steve Winwood and Eddie Vedder while in London and Amsterdam.
Winwood, who opened for Petty during the Heartbreakers’ 2008 tour, sat in with the band for two of the Brit’s biggest hits while at London’s esteemed Royal Albert Hall: “Gimme Some Lovin’” and “Can’t Find My Way Home.”
Vedder recently joined Petty just a few days after the Heartbreakers and Pearl Jam were part of an impressive collection of headliners at the Isle of Wight Festival that included Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. Pearl Jam’s front man, who had previously joined Petty on stage for the band’s 2006 tour, dug into the Heartbreaker’s trove of hits with an extended version of “The Waiting” and “American Girl” at Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall.
