Made in America Festival’s Odd Lineup

When Jay-Z’s Made In America Festival was first announced in May, I wrote that that festival seemed to have an odd and inconsistent lineup. As the Philadelphia festival nears closer to its September 1st/September 2nd dates, the lineup has been firmed up a bit from its initial announcement, with Drake, Chris Cornell, Gary Clark Jr., and Jill Scott added to the list of performers. While I understand that festivals typically have a diverse lineup to sell more tickets, the roster still seems to have been hastily and inconsistently slapped together despite having a few compelling names (particularly for September 2nd). So far, it appears to be either rock or Top 40 dance pop without many cross-genre artists. How this attracts an audience for the concert on the parkway remains to be seen but some still seem a bit out of place where they are slotted.
